Hehe masha Allah.

This is an awesome video I just found on American Muslim’s blog.  It has Kareem Salama’s “A Land Called Paradise” playing in the background, which WARNING: does contain music.

BUT! No worries insha Allah! If you don’t want to hear the music you can easily just MUTE the video & play some noninstrumental nasheed while you watch it!  :)

Masha Allah MAS Media Foundation is doing some really cool things. Search MAS Media Foundation on youtube to find out what I’m talking about if you haven’t already.

 Also! Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/user/onenationfilmcontest

121 videos were submitted, some of them are REALLY REALLY good masha Allah. A few of them are mad shady/haram though. I watched a lot of them cuz I didn’t expect shadiness in a MUSLIM Film contest (ehemm) but I guess shaitan squeezes himself in everywhere! If you want to be warned about which ones NOT to watch, leave a comment, and i’ll let you know.

hmm should i take that part out of my post, so as to not advertise it? most of the films were really good, so i thought the chances would be low that someone would end up watching a bad one…guess i was wrong. :-/

  4. I have a question: Why do we (myself included) have to warn people that things contain musical instruments?

Personally, I think it is time we start looking past this whole issue of instruments/non-instruments, and the whole argument of music. Honestly, we have much bigger worries and things we should be thinking about.

To even try and answer your question is going to be so ironic because it’s going to lead to a longer discussion on something you just said we should move past lol.
I agree with you in that we do tend to make little things very important and neglect perhaps more important things. We love to talk about the controversial topics but are silent on issues we all agree on.

However, in my humble opinion, because it is a valid opinion that musical instruments are haram/sinful, we shouldn’t belittle that sin either, and make it seem like it’s such a small thing, because any violation of the commands of Allah, we should consider a big deal rather than seeing it as “small sin” “big sin”.
And even if we don’t believe it to be haraam, we should at least, in my opinion, Allahu’ aalim, respect that difference of opinion.
Abdullah ibn Mas’ood rAa said: “A believer sees his sins as if he were sitting under a mountain which he is afraid may fall on him, whereas the wicked person considers his sins as flies passing over his nose and he just drives them away like this (and he moved his hand over his nose in illustration).” (Sahih Bukhari)

So to me, a sin is a sin, and just as we should protect ourselves from sin, we should also treat our brothers and sisters as ourselves and try and protect them from sin as well. It may be that we follow an opinion that allows something, or restricts it LESS, but if we know others follow an opinion that prohibits something, I think we should also help them in avoiding it. This is not just for music, but for any form of valid difference of opinion. Like if people buy their meat from a nonmuslim butcher because it’s from ahlul kitaab, but they know you only eat halal meat, I don’t think it would be right for them to invite you over for dinner and not tell you where they got the meat from.
AND i’ll stop babbling now insha Allah.
    Feel free to disagree.
    Assalaamualaikum
